Sharon MacKinnon

Sharon MacKinnon is a well-known and respected Canadian artist and her paintings are collected internationally. Sharon paints in encaustic, acrylic, and watermedia and her work is rich in colour, texture and spontaneity. She enjoys painting and sketching “en plain air” especially in the High Arctic where she taught painting for the past 4 years. Now she is very much looking forward sharing her passion for painting outdoors with you in Antarctica!
We will ‘throw the lines’ and head across the Drake Passage aiming to cross the infamous Antarctic Circle, a latitude that few people in the world can claim to have crossed. The further south we go, the more sea ice we find. With a goal to head directly south to the Antarctic Circle at 66°33’S where few ships venture, we take full advantage of being on a modern, ice-strengthened vessel. Our experienced staff continues to be astonished by the pristine beauty of these latitudes.

While on board the Russian vessel Marina Svetaeva, Sharon will give guidance painting of different techniques and opportunities to tap into your creative side. Come and share your artistic expression of this eighth wonder of the world with Sharon!
Sightings of enormous tabular icebergs will confirm we are nearing the Antarctic Peninsula with its abundance of wildlife and soon names like Crystal Sound and Fish Islands, one of the southernmost Adelie penguin and Blue-eyed shag colonies, and the breath-taking landscapes of Paradise Bay or Neko Harbour will remain etched in your memory. Daily excursions by zodiacs on to the Antarctic shores will include encounters with curious penguins, seals and whales, always with the backdrop of spectacular ragged mountains covered by glaciers reaching the sea and hundreds of icebergs filling the bays. Back on the ship you will be greeted with the warmth of delicious food and drink and newfound friends. We hope you will join us.
