Suggested Itinerary

Welcome to Punta Arenas, Chile. You have two full days to meet the expedition staff, check your gear and prepare yourself for your flight to Antarctica – oh and to explore this quaint Chilean fishing village.

Should the weather conditions be suitable for take-off, we will! Your flight crosses the Drake Passage, follows the west side of the Antarctic Peninsula and the spine of the Ellsworth Mountains, to land on a naturally occurring blue-ice runway on Union Glacier. Here you will take your first steps on Antarctica.

We really are at the mercy of the weather gods – so you have five days to explore Antarctica in the area around Union Glacier camp, and as soon as the weather permits you will fly to the South Pole.

On any given day at Union Glacier, you will start with a briefing after breakfast to meet with your guide and discuss the day’s options and choose an activity tailored to the weather and the group’s interests. Excursions include cross country ski-ing, hikes, flat-tire biking, snowmobiling and ice-climbing.

Your flight to the South Pole depends entirely on the weather gods – so as soon as the weather conditions permit, you will board the ski aircraft and for the pole! The 4-5 hour flight soars over sastrugi, crevasse fields and the Thiel Mountains before landing on a groomed ski-way.

Your return flight is planned for the same day, but we will bring food and camping equipment just in case the weather conditions demand an overnight stay.

When weather and runway conditions permit, our intercontinental aircraft will arrive at Union Glacier to transport you back to Chile.
