Botswana

Botswana is one of the most glorious countries to visit in Southern Africa – no other African country is able to offer the diversity and magic of the Delta, with its rivers and waterways, with vast swathes of African bush and wildlife.  It may be one of the most expensive countries to visit, but this is the county’s way of keeping tourism in check, preserving the incredible beauty of this small, amazing country.

Wild Tracks have found the perfect solution to travelling across the country, taking in everything it has to offer, in well-maintained 4 x4’s partnered with top-end mobile camping and stunning lodges. This way we will experience the very heart of Africa in comfort and in style, with delicious cuisine and all the amenities one needs.

This beautiful nation is one of the least densely populated countries in the world. Forty per cent of land is dedicated to parks and wildlife, and it is a wildlife bonanza!  We will hope to see the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino and buffalo but there is so much more: giraffe, zebras, wildebeest, as well as an abundance of superb birdlife.

The dry season is between May and October, warm and sunny days and chilly nights. Water levels in the Okavango Delta are at their highest, creating the channels Botswana is famed for and where we plan to take to the waters in the mokoro, a dug out boat. From November to April is a perfect time to travel but be prepared for some showers. The people of Botswana are warm and friendly and with our guides and ground staff we promise an unforgettable experience.

Angie's expert insight

Ask, ask, ask... your local guide or tracker in Africa, they always know best. Your trackers may be shy, or struggle a little with English, but their depth of knowledge of the areas natural, cultural and historic heritage, as well as their ability to read the landscape is astounding.
